What Foods Contain Gluten

19:52

Gluten is a protein component of certain cereals and grains particularly
wheat, rye, barley and oats. It is this ingredient that plays a major role in
celiac disease. People with celiac disease are unable to properly digest gluten
resulting in abnormal functioning of the small intestines and nutritional
deficiencies.

Gluten from wheat is a major source of dietary protein. However, people with
the celiac illness have to avoid foods containing gluten to prevent their
condition from worsening. In the United States alone, about three million people
are known to be affected by this disease which causes the body’s immune system
to respond in an abnormal way.
People positive with the celiac disease are recommended to avoid foods
containing gluten as much as possible. Studies have proven that those who
religiously follow a gluten-free diet recover faster than those who don’t.
What’s important is to learn what foods are safe to eat. Sometimes, it is easy
to choose other foods without being aware that they still contain gluten.
